Ashfold School – Art & Technology Building

The School planned to improve their cramped art and design technology facilities by creating a new purpose built development, with scope to include food technology. The Practice prepared preliminary design proposals in competition and was appointed in the summer of 2013.

The brief was complicated by the proximity of the Grade 1 listed Jacobean mansion, which forms the hub of the School. Consultations with English Heritage, Buckinghamshire’s Archaeological Department and Aylesbury Vale’s Conservation Officer helped inform the approved scheme which takes design cues from the surrounding architecture, with steeply pitched multiple gables and careful proportioning of fenestration and detailing.

The completed building sits comfortably within its historic surroundings, whilst providing up-to-date facilities for Art, Technology, Pottery and Food Technology.
